Strategies should be executed on the driving range

17/11/2009
Players need to have a plan when deciding to venture to the driving range if they want to bring more consistency to their game, a PGA professional has suggested.

Writing a blog for World Golf, Marc Solomon highlights that a number of amateur players believe they will improve their game by regularly attending the range and simply hitting numerous golf balls.

However, he highlights that even top performers such as Nike Golf SQ Dymo golf driver user Tiger Woods have a plan to work on at the range to improve their scores.

Mr Solomon said: "When a golfer goes to the driving range just to hit golf balls without a plan they're setting themselves up for disaster.

"Not knowing what to practice turns your golf game into a rollercoaster of highs and lows that ends just like a rollercoaster ends, in the same place it began."

He added that once players have a plan and discover a successful ratio between practicing and performing on the course, then they will be well on their way to witnessing improvements in their game.

Meanwhile, players are also advised to pick out a target when using their golf irons and golf wedges to ensure that they are able to hit a ball straight, rather than simply focusing on distance.
