Comments about John Letters Torrance Golf Bag (Cart):

I have for years used an Oglio stand bag and bought this for fitting on a trolley. Standing it next to the Oglio really highlights the difference in quality of materials and construction, the Letters bag does not compare well. In particular the cheap and basic club dividers, carry strap (ok, not planning to use this) and covers which are the same thin plastic as Pacamacs. The front pockets, presumably for tees, markers etc are awkward to access so won't be used. The side umbrella prevents access into one large pocket.

Why did I buy it? I have been a long term adherent of John Letters clubs as quality home-grown products and the price was attractive. This will do the job for now but if and when I progress in the game I will trade up to something better which is a sad reflection on where the company is currently positioning itself.

Comments about John Letters Torrance Golf Bag (Cart):

It took me an age (and forever trawling through reviews) to finally decide it is down to personal choice which bag is right for you. I loved the idea of a putter well, which seems to be all the rage, however there is no cover for your putter whilst it's in there? If you take it out then the rain goes down the tube and spends its time soaking the end of the handles of all your other clubs (or maybe that's just a design flaw of the Nike M9 II, which I originally went to buy). If I'm honest I didn't want to buy this bag as it doesn't have the show of factor of TaylorMade, Mizuno, Nike, Callaway, etc. etc. - however I found myself trying to justify why I would buy one of those other bags when this seemed to have a mix of all the best of the others. There were no reviews for this product which is why I thought I'd take the time to drop a few lines about it....
I've used it 4 times (72 holes) since buying it 5 days ago and found the following - 1) it hardly turns when on the trolley and has a fantastic 'cut-out' on the base which will stop it spinning completely when I manage to fit it properly into my old Hippo trolley (maybe it'd custom fit new trolleys, but I've no idea) 2) I don't carry much food or drink so found putting a 500ml drink and choc bar in the cooler pocket no problem, but it wouldn't take a bigger bottle or 2 x 500ml. 3) My (15 year) old stand bag had 2 'big' pockets and 3 'small' - I can get the contents of both big pockets into 1 on this bag, I can probably fit 30 balls in the pocket on the front, then there's the valuables pouch and numerous others to boot... I'm not sure how much people want to wheel around with them, but this SURELY must be sufficient!?!? 4) Yet to be used is the full length waterproof cover that comes with the bag and fits into yet another of the pockets - a real nice extra. The 'normal' head cover is flimsy in comparison to the cloth cover I'm used to and is not as tight fitting, though I'm confident of its waterproofability (new word) and the fact it's 'flimsy' means you can take it off and easily keep it in the bag without taking up space. 5) I desperately wanted individual full length dividers and have no doubt they're superb, however the 14 way top with 3 full length dividers is absolutely definitely sufficient, the clubs exit and enter the bag with no fuss. Having the designated putter hole at the front is just as good as an external 'well' by my reckoning. 6) I wanted a bag with no front handle to spoil the aesthetics, the moulded top gives enough grip to put on and off the trolley and I put it in the car face down and use the handle on the rear of the bag to lift it out. 7) The squeezy bungee thing to hold the umbrella is annoyingly feeble, it doesn't fall out but after a few bounces down the fairway (ok, rough) it's not held tight to the bag - it really, REALLY, isn't a problem and it cannot fall out, but it annoys me when a piece of equipment has one simple job to do in life and fails spectacularly.
Whether any of the above fades over time and zips start failing then I will obviously change my mind over how good this bag really is, but for now it's doing a superb job and also looks good whilst it's doing it... but like I said to start, it's your bag, your choice and your personal taste that decides what is right for you. Good luck!
