Amateurs may have to ensure that their weight is more evenly distributed throughout their swing in order to prevent ballooning too many shots with their golf driver.
An article in Golf Monthly has noted that there are a number of reasons why a player may end up hitting a skied drive, one of which being because too much weight is on their left side when making impact with a golf ball.
One of the consequences of his is that a player may not make the preferred contact with a ball from the face of their club, but there are some strategies that can be followed to reduce the chances of this happening.
Among these should be checks on the position of a golf ball within a stance and the angle at which a clubface is pointing.
The publication suggested: "Firstly, in the address position check that your ball position isn't too far back, your hands aren't too far forward and the clubface isn't closed.
"Now practice hitting a series of shots keeping 60 per cent of your weight on your right side throughout.
Players could improve their swing by watching good players and imitating what they see or having a professional videotape a swing so it can be checked to see where adjustments need to be made.
