Steve Stricker believes that the FedEx Cup playoffs will help to ensure the US Ryder Cup team is in good shape for its showdown with Europe in October.
Prior to the introduction of the playoffs in 2007, Stricker notes that many American players turned up to the Ryder Cup having only played intermittently in the preceding month.
As a result, he says they may not have been in peak condition and suggests this could be a factor behind Europe's dominant record in recent years.
However, with so much money and prestige now up for grabs on the US PGA Tour in the lead-up to the Ryder Cup, the world number four believes the players on the US team will be at a "high level" heading to Celtic Manor.
"You know, there's big-time fields, great competition, so it's an opportunity to keep on working on your game under tournament conditions, which is always more beneficial than just being at home whacking it around with buddies or by yourself," the Titleist pro V1 golf ball user said.
Stricker also said he tends to scale back his practice sessions as the year goes on, with the time he does spend in the practice area devoted to a lot of putting and chipping with his
Titleist Wedge.
