Many golfers who are seeing their swing deteriorating fail to realise that a foot problem can be a major cause.
Dr Scott Woodburn of Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore has told Florida's Ivanhoe Broadcast News that the foot niggles can disrupt a swing on a number of levels.
It is known that Arthiritis of the big toe compromises the follow-through, while Neuromas - a problem with nerves in the ball of the foot, causes pain when when weight is shifted from one leg to another during a swing.
"Usually, the patient comes in complaining of pain in their foot, but they don't really notice that they're golf swing is off," revealed Dr Woodburn, speaking to the news provider.
Jose Maria Olazabal was one player that suffered from a foot problem during the mid-90s. However he came back from the injury to the win the US Masters in 1999 - an event which provided his first win at a major in 1994.
