Garcia's caddie sticks to sponsorship agreement

20/11/2009
Many amateur players may often have dress-code issues when playing at their local course after being deemed to be wearing the wrong golf clothing, however, the problem has now risen at the Dubai World Championship.

Sergio Garcia wears Adidas golf clothing and plays with TaylorMade golf clubs as a result of an agreed sponsorship deal.

His caddie Gary Matthews was one of seven out of the 58 in Dubai who refused to take part in a Ralph Lauren concept to wear a specially created uniform, with their player's name and country's flag on the back.

Garcia said of the reasons for this decision: "We have a contract with Adidas TaylorMade which we cannot breach."

The Spaniard got off to a solid start in the Dubai World Championship by shooting a one-under-par 71 in the first round.

The TaylorMade Tour Burner golf driver user dropped two shots on the opening nine holes to make the turn at one over before recovering on his way in.

He also struggled a little with his accuracy off the tee as he only found nine of the 14 fairways in the round.
