Golf lessons worthwhile for players of all abilities

Although players of a certain handicap may feel they have little to gain from having some lessons with a qualified golf coach, the move could have a huge bearing on their game, it has been suggested.

The PGA Tour website highlights that players may have built up their own, ingrained bad habits when teaching themselves how to hit a golf ball, which could include bad feet alignment or a wrong grip.

Meanwhile, it is remarked that a professional may be able to become more versatile in the types of shot they can produce, which will ultimately have a positive bearing on their handicap.

"If you have never taken a lesson, you have most likely adapted your style of play to try to hide your foibles. Taking a lesson will teach you the right way to execute each shot," the website stated.

"By hitting the ball properly to get the right loft, the right distance and the right backspin, you will learn how to better control the ball on the course and that means lower scores."

Other areas where an instructor may be able to identify weakness include the path of a backswing and the distance a player is standing from their golf ball.
