Jimenez continues to hit his stride with age

08/02/2010
- Golf Equipment
Miguel Angel Jimenez compared himself to a fine wine after gaining a 16th career European Tour victory in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

The Spaniard beat fellow Ping golf equipment user Lee Westwood in a play-off to pick up the triumph at the Emirates Golf Club.

Westwood had opportunities at the opening two extra holes as he and Jimenez were inseparable after shooting even-par rounds of 72.

But after the world number four failed to make the key shots with his golf putter, Jimenez made no mistake with his first chance and collected a first success in the event, having twice finished runner-up in the past.

Meanwhile, the result means that Jimenez has now won nine of his 16 European Tour titles since passing the age of 40.

He said: "Like a good wine, with age, I get better and better.

"I feel comfortable on the golf course - that is key. I am not 25 or 30, I have just turned 46 but I'm still healthy and still strong. Not like I was when I was 25, but still strong and I can still play the ball. And if I feel happy and can focus, then you can win."

Jimenez has also represented Europe in the Ryder Cup on four occasions, alongside playing for Spain 11 times in golf's World Cup.
