Miguel Angel Jimenez has been awarded the European Tour's 'shot of the month' prize for July for his remarkable recovery on the Road Hole at St Andrews in the British Open.
Finding his Srixon Z-Star golf ball against a wall after fluffing a difficult chip shot in front of the green, Jimenez's options were severely limited.
Unable to take a backswing because of the proximity of the wall, the Spaniard faced a choice between taking a drop shot - and losing a stroke - and playing a high-risk shot off the wall with his back to the green.
Jimenez went for the latter option and it paid off spectacularly, with his
Srixon Z-Star golf ball rebounding off the wall and onto the green.
"I took out my sand wedge and hoped to get a good break but I had no idea how it would turn out as you can't practise that sort of shot! I was happy to see the ball bounce the right way over my head and onto the green," the Jimenez explained.
Jimenez will be turning out for Europe at this year's Ryder Cup in Wales after securing automatic qualification at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles on Sunday (August 29th).
