Last year's US Open runner-up Rocco Mediate is optimistic that some new additions to his golf bag could help him go one better in the event this time around.
The 46-year-old lost to world number one Tiger Woods in a play-off in the US Open ten months ago at Torrey Pines.
However, for this year's event at Bethpage Black outside New York City over the four days between June 18th and 21st, Mediate will be equipped with a new driver and putter.
The new high-tech equipment the American has opted for is the
Odyssey 2-ball putter and the
Callaway Big Bertha Diablo driver. He told Scripps News: "The 2-ball is the greatest selling putter in history. It helps anyone line up a putt properly, which couldn't be more important.
"I've used the Diablo since (February) and have picked up some distance and accuracy with it. It's so pleasing to the eye. It just looks cool, which I like.''
Mediate's second place at the US Open last year was his best result in a major. Previously he had finished sixth at the PGA Championship in 2002.
