Mickelson uses two Callaway golf drivers in Doral

12/03/2010
Phil Mickelson made an interesting decision to put two Callaway golf drivers in his bag for the WGC-CA Championship in a bid to combat the heavy winds present in Florida.

Alongside the Callaway Golf FT9 golf driver that is a regular feature of his golf bag, the world number three opted for another golf driver that provided a lower ball flight to avoid the worst of the breeze.

To compensate this, Mickelson was forced to take one of the golf wedges out of his bag and this decision proved wise as he carded a one-under-par 71 in his opening round at TPC Blue Monster.

This put him in a share of 17th spot and within four strokes of leader Charl Schwartzel.

Mickelson said: "It's a little different. I'm going to do this a little bit more this year, because the driver that I have, the FT9, hits the ball long and far, but it's also very high and has great carry.

"At a course like Doral, where it's very windy, this driver helps keep it down out of the wind, as well as it doesn't go quite as far as my current driver. So there are some holes where I want to hit a little bit more than three-wood."

Mickelson has previously emerged victorious 37 times in PGA Tour events, while also claiming three victories in golf majors.ADNFCR-1699-ID-19665598-ADNFCR
