A golf bag full of Nike playing equipment helped Lucas Glover seal his two-shot victory at the US Open.
Glover became the first player to win a major using a square-shaped driver through using his Nike SQ SUMO driver, while also using equipment such as the
Nike SV wedges. However, it has been his decision to switch to a new Nike prototype putter that has helped his game make large strides so far in 2009.
He has had the golf club in his bag since the Bob Hope Classic earlier this year and has risen from being placed 116th in the putts per round statistics in 2008 to sharing 23rd position this year.
One of the features of Glover's tournament was that he only three-putted one hole during the 72 that he played and that was in the final round.
Meanwhile, Paul Casey is another who has also registered success with the same prototype blade-style putter, having won three tournaments in 2009 including the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Glover had never previously made the cut during three previous efforts at the US Open, including the other time it was held at Bethpage State Park in 2002.
