Archer gears up for SA event

05/12/2008
Philip Archer is gearing up for the Alfred Dunhill Championships event in South Africa this month, starting on Thursday, December 11th.

The John Letters Tour Professional is already two events into this season's European Tour schedule, having appeared at the Hong Kong Open and Australian Masters and is now set to join a top class field in Leopard Creek, reports the Warrington Guardian.

After finishing a respectable one-under par at both events, the current Warrington Sports Personality of the Year will be looking to propel himself further up the leaderboard, placing him in a favourable position in the European Tour's new Race to Dubai format.

Archer had led the Australian Masters during the opening round and would have been disappointed to drop to 31st.

One of the highlights of Archer's last season was an impressive fourth place finish at the Italian Open in Milan.

The Birchwood Golf Club professional also made appearances at the majors in the Open Championship and US Open.
