Phillip Archer made a solid start to the Qatar Masters today (Thursday, January 22nd), going out in the morning to make a one-under par round of 71.
The
John Letters Tour Professional's first outing at the Doha Golf Club left him tied for 29th spot by mid-afternoon, with many players still out on the course.
Archer's encouraging showing follows the Merseyside golfer's stunning final round of 65 at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship last week which earned him a share of 13th place.
That brilliant display came on the back of a third round 67 and gave Warrington's Sport Personality of the Year his best finish since a series of runners-up spots in 2007.
Henrik Stenson led the way in Qatar with a six-under par round of 66 giving him a one-shot lead.
Archer's fellow Englishmen Lee Westwood (-5), Robert Dinwiddie (-4), Oliver Wilson (-3) and David Dixon (-2) all made early leaderboard appearances.
