England's Phillip Archer leapt up the leaderboard at the British Masters today (Friday, September 27th) after a hole-in-one on the par-three seventh hole.
The
John Letters Tour Professional had reached two-under par by early afternoon on day two of the event at the Belfry, tied for 13th place through 13 holes.
His remarkable shot represented the first hole-in-one seen at the tournament this year and leaves him three shots off the leaders Paul Lawrie, Marc Warren and Marcus Fraser on five-under par.
A high place finish would cap a decent year for Merseysider Archer who has appeared at two majors in 2008 as well securing a fourth place finish at the Italian Open.
Nick Faldo made a famous hole-in-one at the Warwickshire course in 1993's Ryder Cup.
Faldo was playing his opposing captain at this year's event, Paul Azinger, in a singles match which he eventually lost despite the jaw-dropping shot on the 14th.
It is thought that the average golfer has chances of one in 8,000 of making a hole-in-one.
