Former world number one Ernie Els has said that he thinks US PGA Tour stars will be reluctant to join the European Tour next year unless there are special exemptions made for the Dubai World Championship, which will offer a $10 million (£5.6 million) prize fund.
There had been suggestions that the likes of Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson would be happy to switch over to the European Tour in order to compete in the Race to Dubai leading up to the tournament.
But
Callaway Golf's Els believes that a recent increase of the minimum events which European Tour players must participate in to 12 will put off some US-based players from making the switch.
He said: "For US guys to change schedules and play here, I don't think so.
"I don't know if there's going to be special exemptions for players to play in the Race to Dubai. If that's not the case, I don't know if the (American) guys will really change their schedules to that extent."
Els is in Scotland to compete in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, starting today (Thursday, October 2nd) at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.
