Sweden's Robert Karlsson took the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship title yesterday (Sunday, October 5th), coming through a three-way play-off with Martin Kaymer of Germany and England's Ross Fisher.
The trio were tied on ten-under par after the tournament's final round, with Karlsson's countryman Jarmo Sandelin two strokes back on eight-under par.
Titleist's Karlsson acted decisively on the first extra-hole, sinking a birdie to win the sudden death decider, moving above Padraig Harrington to the top of the European Tour's Order of Merit in the process.
The towering six foot five inch-tall Karlsson said that gaining top spot in the rankings hadn't entered his mind during the contest.
He commented: "It's a bonus to be top of the Order of Merit but you do not think about it, you are just trying to do your best."
Karlsson, who now has nine European Tour wins to his name, has represented Europe in the last two Ryder Cups.
