A 17-year-old schoolboy leads US Masters champion Trevor Immelman at the Taiheiyo Masters after shooting a six-under par first round 66.
Ryo Ishikawa was three-shots clear of South African Immelman after day one at the Taiheiyo Club's Gotemba Course in Shizuoka.
Nike Golf's Immelman recorded a three-under par 69 as he continues the search for his first title since winning at Augusta in April.
After holing a 25-footer on his second hole for eagle, teenage prodigy Ishikawa said: "The eagle got me going.
"It was kind of a bonus because I wasn't going for an eagle on that hole. I think I played even better than the score shows."
Colourful character Shingo Katayama and his countryman Yasuharu Imano shared second place at the Japan Golf Tour event.
Immelman has endured patchy form since his big spring win, coming in last place at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
