Tour officials delighted with Singh win

One of the Asian Tour's senior figures has expressed his delight at a homegrown winner of the Singapore Open.

Jeev Milkha Singh won the tour's flagship event at the weekend, holding off dangerous duo Ernie Els and Padraig Harrington, who finished one back from the Indian's seven-under par.

Now the Asian Tour's executive chairman Kyi Hla Han has underlined the significance of a winner from the continent.

He said: "Part of our mission is to create greater playing opportunities for our members and through this historic landmark, it reinforces the strength of the game in Asia.

"I am convinced that Jeev's success will inspire other young players across Asia to emulate his success."

Both Els and Harrington narrowly missed putts on the last which would have forced a play-off.

Singh becomes the first player in the history of the Asian Tour to win more than $1 million (£679,000) in one season.
