Ian Woosnam has confirmed that he would like to be considered for the Ryder Cup captaincy at Celtic Manor in 2010.
The Welshman presided over the European team's last victory in 2006 and says he would be honoured to take the role in his home country.
But Woosnam was quick to stress that this year's vice captain - Jose Maria Olazabal - deserves the job if he so chooses.
Former US Masters champion Woosnam told the BBC: "We've always had a great team spirit and now, because we have lost, we need to get that back into the team.
"I feel that I have got the experience to do it again and get that feeling back in the team room again."
Woosnam and Olazabal will face competition from Sandy Lyle and Colin Montgomerie, although Monty has expressed his belief that fellow Scot Lyle should be handed the job.
