Gonzalo Fdez-Castano enjoyed the perfect start to this year's European Open, going to five-under par to lead the tournament by late morning.
The Spaniard, ranked 137th in the world, led by one stroke from England's Ross Fisher after carding five birdies and an eagle by the tenth hole.
Also in contention from the home contingent is Robert Rock who was within three shots of the lead going round the back nine.
Peter Hedblom was tied for second with Fisher on four-under par, the Swede made an eagle on the par-five 15th.
Colin Montgomerie was nicely poised on two-under par after 12 holes. The defending champion is in a group of eight players including Ian Poulter and Simon Khan.
Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose are among those scheduled for late starts at the London Golf Club near Ash in Kent.
