Paul Azinger is backing JB Holmes to be part of a winning US Ryder Cup team in his home state of Kentucky.
Captain Azinger picked Holmes - who joins fellow Kentucky man Kenny Perry of
TaylorMade at Valhalla - as one of his four wildcard choices, despite the fact the 26-year-old is relatively inexperienced, with no Ryder Cup appearances to his name.
Big-hitter Holmes, two-time winner of Arizona's FBR Open, is said to be at home at the venue, which Azinger said was factor in his decision to call-up the 26-year-old.
He commented: "I really like JB Holmes's personality. I think he fits match play and he knows Valhalla like the back of his hand, so maybe that will help.
"I hope it does. I'm really excited to have JB on the team. He was extremely excited."
Holmes's previous experience of international match-play golf was in the 2005 Walker Cup at Chicago Golf Club, when he was part of the team of US amateurs that won the trophy back from Great Britain and Ireland.
