Phil Mickelson can't put his finger on the US team's poor form in recent Ryder Cups.
The
Callaway Golf star will spearhead the American attempt to win back the coveted trophy after losing out on the last three occasions.
But Mickelson, who has appeared in six Ryder Cups, is puzzled by the US's record, considering their success in Presidents Cup events against a side of international stars.
In the run-up to this year's Ryder Cup at Valhalla, Kentucky - starting on Friday (September 19th) - the 38-year-old commented: "I don't know why we haven't been able to play at the same level in the Ryder Cup as we have in the Presidents Cup.
"But I don't feel as though there are those scars ... given that we've had success in the alternate years."
The US have won the last three out of the last four Presidents Cups - the triumphs of 2005 and 2007 were led by captain Jack Nicklaus.
