Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell have been jointly given the 2010 European Tour Golfer of the Year award.
A judging panel of golf writers and commentators were unable to split the duo, meaning the honour is being shared for the first time in its 26-year history.
Both players have enjoyed stellar campaigns and won their first ever majors, with McDowell landing the US Open and Kaymer triumphing at the US PGA Championship.
The pair were vying for the Race to Dubai crown until the final event of the European Tour season, with
TaylorMade R9 Supertri driver user Kaymer coming out on top.
In addition, both men featured in Europe's Ryder Cup victory over the US, with McDowell taking the plaudits after securing the vital point on the final day.
"I am truly humbled to accept this coveted award," said McDowell, who carries a
Callaway FT Tour driver in his bag.
"It is the icing on the cake on what has been a very special year for myself, Martin and everyone involved in European golf."
Kaymer revealed his pride at emulating fellow German Bernhard Langer, who was the first player to win the award in 1985.
"This has been a truly great year for me and winning this award is the perfect ending," he added.
"It is recognition for my performances in 2010 and to be voted for by the golfing media, the people who watch and report on our sport throughout the year, makes me feel very proud."
Colin Montgomerie and Nick Faldo share the record for being named European Tour Golfer of the Year, having both received the honour on four occasions.
