Lee Westwood has slammed the PGA Tour for failing to give Rory McIlroy its Rookie of the Year award for 2010.
McIlroy enjoyed a solid campaign, finishing third in two majors, winning the Quail Hollow Championship and playing his part in Europe's victorious Ryder Cup effort.
However, the honour was handed to young American Rickie Fowler, who is yet to win a PGA Tour event, and Westwood was quick to criticise the decision.
"Sorry, 140 letters is not going to be enough for this rant! Just seen Rickie Fowler has been given rookie of the year," said the world number one on his Twitter account.
"Yes he's had a good year but Rory McIlroy third in two majors and an absolute demolition of the field at Quail Hollow! Oh yes and on the winning Ryder cup team! Please!"
The 37-year-old, who uses a
Titleist Pro V1x ball, also hinted that the snub could be linked to McIlroy's decision not to renew his membership of the PGA Tour for the 2011 season.
Westwood recently rounded off his season in fine style by surging to an eight-shot victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun City, South Africa.
