While Ernie Els took to the putting green to eagerly wait for Adam Scott to finish his final round of the 141st Open Championship, the South African still found the time to sign autographs for the children as he waited to learn his fate.
Not only that, but captured by the TV cameras and millions viewing across the globe, the ‘Big Easy’ signed just some of the 50,000 Direct Golf caps that the Great British retailer handed-out as part of their biggest ever Open promotion, a £2 million giveaway.
Moments later, Adam Scott missed a 10 foot putt to tie on the 18th hole at Royal Lytham & St Annes and Els was crowned 2012 Open Champion and Champion Golfer of the year.
Direct Golf UK would like to congratulate and thank Ernie for his kindness; He is a very worthy champion of the Claret jug.
John Andrew, Managing Director, commented: “We were extremely active this year at The Open and our efforts giving away 50,000 free caps have not gone unnoticed by the UK golfing public and the millions watching on TV. The Open is the biggest week in the golfing calendar and we want to do our bit to make it the best yet and get people buzzing about the game”
As pictured here with Ernie Els, many used the DGUK caps to get signatures of their favourite players during the major Championship and others have kept them as souvenirs of the major championship and have even been spotted at other major sporting events including the watching the Team GB play football at Wembley.
