Garcia surges up the leaderboard in Melbourne

12/11/2010
Sergio Garcia carded the lowest score of the day to move into contention at the Australian Masters in Melbourne.

The TaylorMade Burner SuperFast driver user fired a six-under-par 65 to put himself on four under par after two rounds, six shots behind leader Adam Bland.

Garcia, who only recently returned from a break following a lengthy slump in form, was pleased with how he dealt with some windy conditions at the Victoria Golf Club.

"I've always enjoyed playing into the wind and I felt comfortable all round. I was confident with what I wanted to do with all my shots," he said.

"When I was growing up I played a lot of my golf in the UK and it is usually windy there and I have always enjoyed that kind of challenge."

The 30-year-old also revealed that his effort was tinged with some disappointment as he believed he had opportunities to post an even lower score.

Garcia has not tasted tournament victory since winning the WGC-HSBC Champions in November 2008.
