Colin Montgomerie will stay on as player-captain for Europe's Royal Trophy defence against Asia in January, it emerged yesterday (November 9th).
The Scot was at the helm 12 months ago when the Europeans secured a dramatic 8.5 to 7.5 success in Bangkok, with the result coming down to the final singles match.
Montgomerie, who also skippered Europe to Ryder Cup success last month, confirmed that he will again lead his troops at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin.
"I'm certain we will face a strong Asian challenge but we will be prepared to play our best and to compete with great determination," said the
Titleist Pro V1x ball user.
"I'll be retaining the role of captain and player of the European team at the Royal Trophy. I enjoyed the dual role in the previous edition."
The 49-year-old decided to take on the challenge again at the request of Seve Ballesteros, who captained Europe in the first two Royal Trophy events in 2006 and 2007.
Montgomerie described beating the US at Celtic Manor in Wales to regain the Ryder Cup as the proudest moment of his career in golf.
