Colin Montgomerie has claimed today (October 12th) that Europe are now the most potent force in golf.
Five Europeans currently feature in the top ten of the world rankings, with Lee Westwood at two, Martin Kaymer at four, Paul Casey at seven, Luke Donald at eight and Rory McIlroy at nine.
Furthermore, three of the four majors in 2010 have been won by players on the European Tour - Louis Oosthuizen (Open Championship), Graeme McDowell (US Open) and Kaymer (USPGA Championship).
Montgomerie, who captained the continent's successful Ryder Cup campaign earlier this month, explained that there has been a "changing of the guard" this year.
"We've always bowed to America's dominance in the world rankings," said the
Titleist Pro V1x ball user.
"But we've had a fantastic year in Europe and that dominance is now changing."
Kaymer and Westwood are now vying for Tiger Woods' world number one spot, with the latter in pole position to surpass the American at the end of the month.
