Lee Westwood has rejected the chance to participate on the USPGA Tour next year, it emerged yesterday (October 6th).
The world number two was part of the Europe Ryder Cup team which recorded a famous one-point win over the US at Celtic Manor earlier this week.
He has now given the European Tour a further boost by passing up the opportunity to head to the US to compete in events such as the lucrative FedEx Cup.
Westwood said: "I don't want to be dictated to by having to go to America to play FedEx Cup when it doesn't really mean that much to me.
"I think they (the PGA Tour) would like me to go and be a member there, but as of Monday evening I became an individual again and I do what's right for Lee Westwood now."
The
Titleist Pro V1x ball striker added that his decision was made after his manager Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler pointed out that his schedule this year has brought impressive results.
Westwood finished second at both the Masters and the Open Championship and can overtake Tiger Woods as world number one with a top-two finish at this week's Dunhill Links Championship.
