Plasma Welding Technology

The precise plasma welding process was introduced to the welding industry in 1964 as a method of bringing better control and accuracy to the welded joint. Today, plasma welding retains the original advantages it brought to the industry by providing an advanced level of control and accuracy to produce high quality welds in miniature or precision applications, to provide long electrode life for high production requirements.

The John Letters design team decided to take advantage and use this precise welding technique on their new Tour Black Drivers.

This welding process has allowed them to make a neater welding pattern due to the accuracy and preciseness of the process. Each striking face plate is mounted to the clubhead body and connected together by the weld. This helps to reduce the overall weight of the clubhead due to the lower amount of excess weld waste.

Another advantage is the trampoline effect, also known as the COR (Coefficient of Restitution). Due to the neater and stronger weld pattern the clubface absorbs the ball and fires it out at greater speeds to give you an increase in distance and ball speed.

COR - (relative ball speed after collision)/(relative ball speed before collision)
