What you will need.
Once you have chosen your new grips and are ready to start, make sure that
you have the following materials:
- Grip solvent (place in a squeeze bottle) - Turps or White Spirit
is perfect
- Two-sided grip tape (this comes free with Direct Golf UK grip kits)
and a container to catch the unused solvent (a washing up bowl is ideal.)
- You'll also need a vice and a rubber shaft holder or something similar
to protect the shaft whilst in the vice.
|
 |
Remove your old, worn grips.
Put the shaft holder (or alternative protection) over you club shaft and
tighten in the vice. Be careful not to overtighten - if you are re-gripping
graphite shafts they can crack. Tighten just enough that the shaft does
not move and using a sharp knife cut the grip off. ALWAYS cut away from
yourself to prevent injury and do not press too hard as this can cause
damage to the shaft (especially if it is a graphite shaft.) |
|
| Once the old grip has been removed carefully remove the old
tape. I am using a knife here because it is a steel shaft but DO NOT use
a knife blade directly on graphite. When you've done this, you are ready
to ready to re-grip your clubs: |
 |
|
 |
Apply new tape.
Wrap the tape around the shaft, making full contact for the length of the
tape and leaving a small even space between each 'twist'. |
|
| Use one of the new grips to gauge how far down you need to
go with the tape. |
 |
|
 |
Remove the outer layer of backing tape to reveal the 'sticky'
tape underneath. Tuck the excess tape into the top of the shaft to form
a good seal. |
Now on to the final step, attaching the new grip to
the shaft. |
