Iron Buyers Guide - Mid Handicap
Head Design – In the mid handicap range you should still be looking for a cavity back style of clubhead but different options and variations are available, allowing you to fine tune your new set to your specific game. A popular option is an iron that has been designed to give both forgiveness and control, such as a combo or combination set which delivers a full cavity back design in the longer irons, for forgiveness, and then progresses to a near blade design in the shorter irons for increased control and feel.
Head Construction – ‘Cast’ steel clubheads are by far the most common construction method used and offer the greatest value for money and durability. If you are searching for more feel and feedback then it may be considering a ‘Forged’ head where the steel has been stamped into shape under huge pressure. The forging process is more expensive but produces a head with a much softer feel and is therefore usually requested by the better player who demands a high level of feedback.
